Challenge of this Case

The core challenge was designing a healthy food app that made nutritious eating feel genuinely exciting and desirable rather than medicinal or restrictive. Many health food digital products fail because they look and feel like a wellness clinic rather than a food brand. Food2Near needed to feel as vibrant and appetizing as any premium food delivery competitor.

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about working with Modgenix — from how we engage to how we deliver results across every service we offer.
The dietary preference engine was built as a tag-based filtering system applied across all menu items. Each meal item is tagged with all applicable dietary attributes (Vegan, Vegetarian, Gluten-Free, High Protein, Low Carb, Dairy-Free, Nut-Free) by the content management team. The user's saved preference profile automatically filters all menu views to show only compliant items — with the option to temporarily override filters for individual browsing sessions.
Real-time tracking is built on Google Maps Platform with a WebSocket connection between the driver's mobile device, the backend order management system, and the customer app. The driver's GPS location is updated every 8 seconds and reflected on the customer's tracking map in real time — along with a dynamically calculated ETA that accounts for current traffic conditions.
We ran extensive A/B testing on the onboarding flow during the beta period — testing different screen counts, field orders, copy variations, and social login placement. The winning variation reduced the original 6-screen onboarding to a 3-screen flow, moved social authentication to the front of the registration experience, and replaced clinical dietary terminology with friendly, relatable language. The result was a 91% onboarding completion rate.
Food2Near runs on a Node.js backend deployed on AWS with auto-scaling configured for peak meal ordering periods (lunch and dinner windows). The database layer uses PostgreSQL for order management and user data, Redis for real-time session management and caching, and AWS S3 for food photography storage served through CloudFront CDN.
Yes — a restaurant partner web portal was built alongside the customer app allowing approved restaurant partners to manage their menu items, photography, pricing, availability, and dietary tags through a simple content management interface. New menu items are reviewed by the Food2Near team before publishing to maintain quality standards across the platform.
